Critical reviews (by Lutheran pastors and church musicians) of books and other resources for Christian worship, preaching, and church music from a perspective rooted in Holy Scripture, the Lutheran Confessions and good common sense. Pastor Luther: His Music and His Care of the Soul
St. Paul will be hosting a Worship Conference on October 6-8 with a Hymn Festival on Monday evening at 7pm, the 7th. Plenary presenters will be Dr. Carl Fickenscher and Kantor Kevin Hildebrand who will also serve as the Hymn Festival organist.
This conference is devoted to teaching practical skills to pastors, to musicians (full and part-time) and interested laypeople as they explore ways to apply the rich treasures of Lutheran hymnody and theology in the local congregation. Some of the sessions are highly theological, others more practical, but all are meant to help pastors appreciate better the role of music in the proclamation of the Word and to help musicians think critically about their ministry. In addition to opportunities for worship and a hymn festival, the conference is designed to inspire church leaders with ideas they can apply in their home parish as they work to proclaim the Gospel through Word and Sacrament.
