Here are some photos of a recently excavated church in Israel, close to Jerusalem that is thought to have been active between the 5th and 7th centuries AD. The article by AP, here comments on the representational images in the floor mosaics of a lamb, cockerels, lions, fish and peacocks (I see also the vine). The geometric patterns in the floor design caught me eye too. They incorporate many designs seen in floor mosaics in Roman villas. So below I have posted some photos of the church, and then some Roman villa floor mosaics for comparison.
