Here is my translation of N. Selnecker's death-prayer-hymn, "O Herre Gott, in meiner Not (ruf ich zu dir)." It is included i.a. in Löhe's Rauchopfer. Many later hymnals appoint "Vater unser" for the tune, but there is also this proper melody:

 

 

O GOD and Lord, Thy help afford!
I cry to Thee; Thou helpest me;
Now as I fare, into Thy care
I all commend. Thine angel send
Me safe to keep, when comes my sleep
When Thou dost know, and I must go.

2. O Jesus Christ, whose life unpriced
On cross was giv'n, God's Lamb from heav'n!
Thy wounds so red, the blood they shed,
In every need for me succeed;
Thy pain and death make me by faith
Thine heav'nly heir, like angels there.

3. O Spirit pure, our Comforter,
Thy comforts send when life must end;
Forsake me not when I am sought
By Satan's might, by Hades' sight!

My Rock, my Lord, upon Thy Word
Thy blessing give, fore'er to live.
